  but & while & however & though

  but 着重强调前后意思转折,并且转折的语气最为强烈。

  如:

  I really want to go shopping with you, but I do have no money.

  我是真的很想和你一起购物,但是我身上确实没钱啊。

  while 着重强调前后两者对比。

  如:

  Tom is reading while Jim is playing football.

  当吉姆在玩足球的时候,汤姆正在读书。

  I am doing homework while you are sleeping.

  当你在睡觉的时候,我正在做家庭作业。

  however adv.一般放在两句之间,表示意思的转折,常作插入语,并用逗号与句子隔开。意思是“然而,不过”。

  如:

  We thought the figures were correct. However, we have discovered some errors.

  我们原以为这些数据正确。不过我们已经发现了一些错误。

  though adv.位于句末或句中(位于句末时常用逗号隔开);conj.引导让步状语从句。如:

  I've a bit of cold. It's nothing serious, though.

  我有点儿感冒,不过并不严重。

  Though he was ill, he went to school.

  catch up with & keep up with

  catch up with 意思为“赶上(某人或某事)”,有追上并可能超过的含义。如:

  clothing 衣物的总称,是不可数名词,其含义比较抽象,尤指某种类型的服装。

  We are well provided with food and clothing.

  我们吃得好,穿得好。

  dress 用作可数名词,主要指妇女穿的连衣裙或上下连身的女装,也可指小孩穿的衣服;用作不可数名词,表示“衣服”的总称(不论男女)。

  She was wearing a beautiful dress.
