　　一、Limit

　　Limit作为名词，表示「界限、极限」，用来描述某个事物的不可逾越的边界。

　　数学上的「求极限」，就是find the limit，当然其数学符号里也有lim这三个字母。

　　有些函数存在上限和下限(upper/lower limit)，比如对于正弦函数 y = sinx，我们就可以说：

　　he upper and lower limits of y = sinx are +1 and –1, respectively.

　　上面说的都是某个具体参数的limit，其实limit还适用于某些更抽象的东西，例如：

　　The Congress passed legislation so as to define the limits of presidential power.

　　国会通过了立法以明确总统权力的界限。

　　此外，limit还可以作为动词，表示「划定边界、设定界限」，也就是「限制」，后面通过介词to引出限定的范围，例如：

　　During the pandemic, movie theaters have to limit the number of viewers to one third of the maximum.

　　疫情期间，电影院不得不将观众数量限制在最大值的1/3。

　　二、Limitation

　　前面说了，limit的本意是名词「界限、极限」，随后衍生出动词词义「设限、限制」，而limitation则可以认为是动词limit对应的名词，即指「限制」这个动作本身，是抽象名词。

　　本次会议的一个议题是对核武器的限制。

　　此外，limitation还可以表示「受限、被局限」这种状态，进而引申成「局限性」，例如：
